In this lift-the-flap book, the mailman delivers Ruby's Fourth of July picnic party invitations to the correct people, but Max's letter to Santa is given to Grandma instead. Grandma misinterprets Max's meaning, and a few more misunderstood missives are misdelivered, but all works out well in the end. These various letters form the ''flaps'' part of the story.
