A little bit of age-wearing to cover boards, but overall in great shape.

The plates do not appear to be hand-colored but chromolithographs, all brilliantly colored and except for the frontispiece (which has a touch of foxing) all are clean and unblemished. Handsome folio volume, 11" by 14.5". Olive green silk cloth binding, bright gilt spine titles, blindstamped flower design to front cover. 208 pages with bibliography and index. 126 illustrations, including 40 full page color plates taken from rare printed books. The period 1485 to 1850 is covered, after which standards of reproduction began to decline. There is a small crease which runs down the center of the dj font panel, but not conspicuous. clean copy.

Orange endpapers. 80 pages illustrated throughout in color by Kate Greenaway. Printed by Edmund Evans. The front and backboard are illustrated with the same picture of two flower bearing girls, standing against a small fence that holds the title information. Underneath them a garland of roses is depicted. This beautiful little book is all about flowers and their meanings. No date but appears to be very early, if not a first printing. Clean with mild edgewear.

Originally published in 1877, the first of Darwin's books to be published after the Origin of the Species. It is his detailed study of orchid morphology and insect pollinators and their close coadaptation. Orchid fanciers will appreciate Darwin's meticulous research and the many elegant drawings that illustrate this facsimile edition. Name on half-title page otherwise clean.
