Susan Araminta is different from all the other dolls because her face was made of wood. She is put in a box with some old clothes and left at the curb. The trashman with a horse and wagon means to take her home to his little girl but she falls off the wagon and lands in the street. There she is discovered by the gruff Scottish Terrier Mister MacHugh who rescues her.
