Illustrated throughout with wonderful full page Lithographs by the author. A Caldecott Honor Book Award Winner in 1952. Fair to poor only as the binding has separated from the black cloth spine. It's all there. no markings, a scarce first printing that's begging to be repaired. Edgewear ro boards.

This delightful storybook tells about Little Big Bye-and-Bye who really REALLY wants a pony! His father told him he can have one when he is bigger, which seems marvelous at first - until he realizes he's not very big yet. Story and illustrations are by Holling Clancy Holling, who wrote and illustrated many wonderful Indian books such as "Claws of the Thunderbird", "Paddle-to-the-Sea", "Tree in the Trail" and others. The Hollings lived among Native Americans for a time, and their books have been praised for their authenticity. Boards lightly worn/soiled, mild thumbing, wrinkling to pages. Colors bright.

Ellen's temperament is a bit like Christopher Robin's (though her appearance is a clone of Harold, from Harold and the Purple Crayon fame), but her lion is a no-nonsense, tougher-minded Pooh, with the voice of reason and reality to counter Ellen's high-flying imagination. The stories range from fear of the dark and being sad to playing doctor, being a fairy princess, and dealing with a new toy that almost replaces lion.Parents will find the subtly droll stories as entertaining as children, and a child who reads chapter books will find especially rewarding.
