Fourth printing of the First Edition (with number line on copyright page "5 7 9 10 8 6 4 8 9/9 0/0 01 02" with "Printed in the US 23 below. First American edition, October 1998" )/ First Edition (stated) of Book One of J.K. Rowling's now classic Harry Potter series. This copy has all the points of the TRUE FIRST US EDITION. Book is bound with red cloth spine with gold lettering and has the diamond pattern purple paper over boards. There is no volume number on the spine. The book has green end papers. The second Issue dust jacket has the original $16.95 price and there is no volume number on the jacket's spine (later printings stated the book number) . The blurb on the back cover of the dust jacket is from Pubisher's Weekly (the first issue had The Guardian review). The back cover of the DJ has 2 bar codes at the bottom, with the numbers 51695 above the smaller one. The "Harry Potter" in gold lettering on the front panel of the jacket is raised and there is no date on the title page. Child's marking with green marker on rear endpapers. Finger smudge at top right corner of page 113 which carries to foredge. Small area of discoloration at very bottom of spine cloth. Dust jacket protected with clear plastic cover. Clean, unmarked text.
