In her lifetime, Wylie garnered notoriety for her unconventional private life and acclaim for her poems and novels. The collection is most renowned for the sonnet sequence "One Person," a deeply moving and technically masterful exploration of love, devotion, and the human spirit.She was considered one of the most distinguished American poets of the 1920s. Though her literary career lasted only eight years, she was recognized as an extremely adept, accomplished author. His works deal with issues of racism, violence, stigmatization, and oppression of black people in America as well as the use of Christianity to persuade them to accept their condition.
