The author (1782 -1852) was an historian and educator, born in Ireland. In 1815 he and his family emigrated to Philadelphia, and he became a noted author of many history textbooks and other works. This is a first edition of his most famous work published in Philadelphia in 1821. Grimshaw's work remains a valuable reference for scholars and students of English language and linguistics.
