Dohanos realized his love of art fairly early in life, selling calendars and illustration copies for $1.00 to $3.00 apiece while he worked in a grocery store and later at an office job. He began his formal education by taking correspondence classes through the International Correspondence School. Soon after, the artist took night classes at the Cleveland School of Art where he received a scholarship to complete his formal art studies. Hardcover. Boston Mills Press , 1st, 2007, Book: Very Good, Dust Jacket: Very Good, Hardcover in a bright, unclipped dust jacket. For a world coming out of economic depression in the 1930s, the Pan American Airways Clipper "flying boats" symbolized elegance and luxury, adventure and romance. Illustrated with rare period photographs, vintage travel posters, magazine ads and colorful company brochures, this fascinating book covers every aspect of the fabulous era of Pan American's graceful clippers. Like their maritime namesakes, the Clippers used the oceans to form a vast global network of travel routes. Pan Am founder Juan Trippe was a visionary who saw the importance of international travel to a changing world. His Clippers would play a key role in the evolution of transoceanic flight, setting time and distance records over the Atlantic and Pacific, providing airmail delivery between countries, and eventually serving the Allies as troop and cargo transports during World War II. A major appeal is the 200 color images and 100 historical black-and-white photographs. Clean copy.

Along with cutting-edge art, literature, and jazz music of 1920s Paris, there was also experimental new dance, exemplified by the Ballets Suedois, the "Swedish Ballet." Choreographed almost entirely by Jean Bsrlin but visualized by 32 painters from 11 nationalities, it boasted costumes and backdrops from the likes of Fernand LZger, Gssta Adrian-Nilsson (GAN), Nils Dardel, and Gerald Murphy, with music by Erik Satie and even Cole Porter, in 23 ballets produced during the company's brief, brilliant existence. Illustrated with 78 archival photos and sketches and 67 color reproductions of posters and production paintings, this catalog is as much an art book as it is a dance history, with works seldom seen in over 80 years.

Power to the People presents the Israel Museum's major collection of propaganda posters from the early years of the Soviet Union, documenting one of the most interesting chapters in twentieth-century graphic design. Inspired by the traditional vernacular of political cartoons, by the lubok wood-cut technique of Russian folk art, and by the ideas of Futurism, the poster artists employed a new visual language to explain the results of the Revolution to the Soviet people. The Israel Museum's collection of Soviet propaganda posters is the largest museum collection of its kind outside Russia. This book illustrates the entire collection for the first time.
