Reed Crandall: Illustrator of the Comics (with author-signed bookplate)by: Hill, Roger

Reed Crandall: Illustrator of the Comics (with author-signed bookplate)
by: Hill, Roger

Softcover. Raleigh NC, TwoMorrows Publishing , 1st pbk, Book: Very Good, Dust Jacket: None, Paperback, 256 pages, illustrated in color. From the 1940s to the '70s, Reed Crandall brought a unique and masterful style to American comic art. Using an illustrator's approach on everything he touched, Crandall gained a reputation as the "artist's artist" through his skillful interpretations of Golden Age super-heroes Doll Man, The Ray, and Blackhawk (his signature character); horror and sci-fi for the legendary EC Comics line; Warren Publishing's Creepy, Eerie, and Blazing Combat; the THUNDER Agents and Edgar Rice Burroughs characters; and even Flash Gordon for King Features. Comic art historian Roger Hill has compiled a complete and extensive history of Crandall's life and career, from his early years and major successes, through his tragic decline and passing in 1982. This full-color softcover includes never-before-seen photos, a wealth of rare and unpublished artwork, and over eighty thousand words of insight into one of the true illustrators of the comics. Bookplate signed by Roger Hill laid in.

Roy Thomas Presents Rulah Jungle Goddess Vol. 2 by: Thomas, Roy

Roy Thomas Presents Rulah Jungle Goddess Vol. 2
by: Thomas, Roy

Hardcover. London, PS publishers, 1st, 2015, Book: Very Good, Dust Jacket: None, Hardcover with no dust jacket. Clean, unmarked copy with only minor wear to covers. Color and Black and white pictures throughout. Rulah first appeared in Zoot Comics #7 back in June 1947 and she's generally regarded as being the brainchild of Matt Baker and, some time later, Jack Kamen and Ghastly Graham Ingels. Collects Rulah #17-27, August 1948 to June 1949. These are typical Good Girl stories of simplistic morality and mega-violence, with a bit of erotic sizzle. Rulah defends people's rights and fights evil. But she was a bit different than the standard "Good Girl Art" stuff of that era. Most of her stories feature a bad girl so there are a lot of catfights.

by: Artbooks, PS (Adapter)

Hardcover. UK, PS publishers, 1st, 2014, Book: Very Good, Dust Jacket: None, Hardcover with no dust jacket. Clean, unmarked copy with only minor wear to covers. Color and Black and white pictures throughout. She may still be everyone's favourite yellow-tressed leopard-skin-clad Jungle Jane but, having made her first appearance almost 80 years ago (courtesy of Will Eisner and 'Jerry' Iger in the British mag Wags #1), Sheena, Queen of the Jungle could be forgiven for being somewhat less spritely swinging through the trees righting wrongs and wielding her knife. In 1938, she made it Stateside with her first showing in Jungle Comics #1 where she settled happily in every issue (plus a decade in her own title) until April 1953. There have been other incarnations, of course, but it's this classic material that strikes at the very heart of Good Girl Art! Collects issues #11-18, Spring 1951 to Winter 1952.

by: Basil Wolverton and Greg Sadowski

Softcover. Seattle, Fantagraphics, 1st, 2021, Book: Very Good, Dust Jacket: None, Softcover, 192pages. Collects, for the first time, the complete adventures of four of the influential Mad magazine cartoonist's more arcane comics creations: Scoop Scuttle, Mystic Moot, Bingbang Buster, and Jumpin' Jupiter - restored, as they've never been seen before! In this rip-roaring retrospective of the influential Mad magazine cartoonist, Basil Wolverton's often-warped imagination combines with his outlandishly wacky visual humor to fascinate and delight. It collects the ultra-rare treasures Scoop Scuttle, Mystic Moot, Bingbang Buster, and Jumpin' Jupiter - as they've never been seen before! Due to the rock-bottom printing methods of ten-cent comic books, Wolverton's intricate line work was routinely obscured, and often obliterated. In this collection, every effort has been made to restore the art to its original splendor, and to at last present the uniquely detailed graphics of this justly revered comic book master. Full-color illustrations throughout.

Sex, Rock & Optical Illusions
by: Moscoso, Victor

Hardcover. Seattle, Fantagraphics Books, 1st, 2006, Book: Very Good, Dust Jacket: Very Good, Hardcover, 144 pages. Sex, Rock 'N' Roll, & Optical Illusions is Victor Moscoso's first major, career-spanning retrospective, from his earliest poster work in 1966 to his most recent graphic experimentation. Optical Illusions contains his best posters that advertised bands playing in San Francisco's famous dance ballrooms of the time - the Avalon, the Matrix, and the Fillmore - as well as many of his Zap Comix contributions, and his solo comix work, many in Moscoso's signature color. This wide-ranging career retrospective - Moscoso's famous technique employing "vibrating colors" that he pioneered in his posters is impeccably reproduced with as much fidelity to the original as modern printing can achieve, his black-and-white and full color comix work is collected here for the first time - is an intense, vibrant, and revelatory experience. Introductions by Steve Heller and Milton Glaser.
