Tells of the true adventures of Ibn Battuta, a fourteenth-century traveler who, like Marco Polo, set forth on a seventy-five thousand mile journey of discovery through many lands, including Tanzania, China, Russia, and Morocco. Rumford's simply written adaptation is often surprisingly eloquent. For example, Ibn Battuta comments on his voyage: "Traveling-it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller." "Traveling-it had captured my heart, and now my heart was calling me home." On each page, a portion of the text appears within its own bright white narrow road crossing elegantly bordered illustrations that shine with generous amounts of gold, red, and deep blue. This text also flows into and out of larger frames. The artist adorns many of these illustrations with Arabic and Chinese calligraphy, providing translations for the longer phrases at the end of the book. A few maps are included and they are executed with the same attention to presentation. A glossary of names, places, and important words provides essential information in an accessible format.

Very good in an unclipped dust jacket. Neglected by his television-entranced mother, a little boy finds his mythical Irish town overflowing with trouble when the bathtub faucet gets stuck and causes a flood with which not even the navy cannot help.

Hardcover. London, Marcus Ward and Co., 1st Edition, 1883, Book: Very Good, Dust Jacket: None, 56 pages; color llustrated boards with brown cloth spine with colored plates by the authors throughout. Verses by Felix Leigh. Cover exhibits edgewear, heaviest at the corners of the boards, which are bumped and have the underlying cardboard exposed. Back cover has a bump at the fore-edge and another at the bottom. Both covers slightly spotted. Interior: binding cracked at page 9; missing between front fly leaf and dedication page (evidence of something tipped in with glue and later removed along reverse of front fly leaf)-- however, the book is otherwise intact. All illustrations present in this edition: lovely plates depicting life in Victorian England, interior very clean.

Geisert gives new meaning to the saying "Don't cry over spilt milk." This wordless tale begins when a pig child spills its milk in the house, which is cantilevered on the edge of a river valley. The milk sets off a complex chain reaction that ultimately destroys the home. Miraculously, no one is hurt, and the final scene shows the family together, surrounded by the shambles of their house, smiling at one another in a way that shows their happiness at just being alive.
