Plastic Man Archives, The - Volume 3
by: Cole, Jack

Hardcover. New York, DC Comics, 1st, 1998, Book: Very Good, Dust Jacket: Very Good, Hardcover 216 pages. Like new in publisher's shrink-wrap. Plastic Man encounters a number of zany villains, including Fargo Freddie, the volcanic man; Froggy Fink, underworld killer; Elmer Body, the body-possessing nobody; and others. Jack Cole was one of the true geniuses of the comic book art form. Here we have some great examples of his masterwork, Plastic Man. Plastic Man and his sidekick Woozy Winks are two of the greatest characters of the Golden Age of comics. Jack Cole's odd outlook on life, and his sometimes dark sense of humor, make these among the best of the superhero comics of the era. Highly recommended to superhero fans, especially those who don't them too seriously.

Postcards of the Night: Views of American Cities
by: Jakle, John A.

Hardcover. Museum of New Mexico Press, 1st, 2003, Book: Very Good, Dust Jacket: Very Good, Hardcover, 124 pages. Featuring eighty-two vintage postcards published beginning at the turn of the century, Postcards of the Night traces American cultural life as it was transformed by industrial strength and shifting demographics. The nation increasingly was growing more educated, upwardly mobile, and urban, and the nighttime postcard popularized this modernism for ordinary consumption. Coalitions of city planners and urban developers, politicians and the media utilized the picture postcard to strategize the role of the individual in the rise of the city. It was the birth of leisure and of travel, the new tourist city to which the postcard needed forcefully to speak, in ways that were equal part artifice and art.

Power to the People: Early Soviet Propaganda Posters in The Israel Museum, Jerusalem
by: Ward, Alex

Hardcover. Burlington, VT, Lund Humphries, Reprint, 2008, Book: Very Good, Dust Jacket: None, 208 pages. Hardcover with no dust jacket. Very clean, unmarked copy with only minor edgewear. Color illustrations throughout. Tight copy. Power to the People presents the Israel Museum's major collection of propaganda posters from the early years of the Soviet Union, documenting one of the most interesting chapters in twentieth-century graphic design. Inspired by the traditional vernacular of political cartoons, by the lubok wood-cut technique of Russian folk art, and by the ideas of Futurism, the poster artists employed a new visual language to explain the results of the Revolution to the Soviet people. The Israel Museum's collection of Soviet propaganda posters is the largest museum collection of its kind outside Russia. This book illustrates the entire collection for the first time.
