All the photos have captions which mostly explain the location and circumstance though the intriguing house (page fifty-two) on stilts with a half-track vehicle in front only gets 'Vienna, Virginia, 1986.

This volume covers the operations of the United States Navy in North African waters, both on the Atlantic coast and in the Mediterranean, from the beginning of World War II through the capture of Pantelleria in June 1943. More than half the volume is devoted to the capture of bases in French Morocco, which was an all-American operation and in many respects one of the most remarkable of the war. Gilt on spine with light fading, lacks dust jacket, otherwise clean, tight copy.

Exhausted man resting with eager boy hikers, art by John Clymer. 10 x 13.5", very good. Mailing label. Clymer first studied art through an Art Instruction School correspondence course. Then he attended the Vancouver School of Art and the Ontario College of Art and Design's summer school. He spent eight years illustrating for Canadian magazines. He moved to Connecticut and studied under N.C. Wyeth and Harvey Dunn. He established his career as an illustrator for American magazines, including Argosy, The Saturday Evening Post, Woman's Day and Field and Stream. Clymer created over eighty covers for The Saturday Evening Post. In 1976, Clymer received the Prix de West from the Academy of Western Art. His oils and charcoal drawings earned him awards from the Cowboy Artists of America. He was named Western Artist of the Year by the National Wildlife Art Collectors Society.

Lobster fishermen, art by Mead Schaeffer. 10.5 x 13.5". Very good. Schaeffer enrolled in the Pratt Institute in 1916. In 1922, at age 24, he was hired to illustrate a series of classic novels for publisher Dodd Mead. During the 1930s and 1940s he received commissions from magazines including Good Housekeeping, McCall's, the Saturday Evening Post, The Ladies Home Journal, Country Gentleman, and Cosmopolitan. He produced 46 covers for the weekly Saturday Evening Post. His work as a war correspondent for the Post during World War II resulted in a well-known series of covers illustrating American military personnel. For most of his career lived in Arlington, Vermont, where his studio was in a barn. Norman Rockwell was a good friend, and Schaeffer and his family often posed as models for Rockwell's Saturday Evening Post illustrations and paintings.
