The Spawn Of Venus And Other Stories
by: Wallace Wood (Author), Al Feldstein (Author), Ray Bradbury (Author), others

Hardcover. Seattle, Fantagraphics Books, 1st, 2025, Book: Very Good, Dust Jacket: None, Hardcover, cloth covers with color label on front, 218 pages illustrated in b&w. The ultimate collection of Wallace Wood's finest science fiction stories. Includes Wood's "My World," adaptations of three classics by Ray Bradbury, a "lost" 3-D story - and a story rejected by the Comics Code, restored and published here for the first time. This mouth-watering collection features the finest (and rarest!) science fiction stories Wallace Wood ever drew - more than two dozen! Wood's meticulously detailed, genre-defining brushwork introduces you to breathtaking planetary vistas, terrifying aliens, and sleek rocket ships surging with the power to conquer the stars. The title story is a rarity that never appeared in any EC comic. Written and drawn for a 3-D comic that was canceled before it could be printed, we present it here in easy-on-the-eyes 2-D. Then, Wood's most iconic story, "My World" is a stunning showcase of the preternatural talent and technique he brought to all his stories. Also included are his trilogy of Ray Bradbury adaptations - "Home to Stay," "There Will Come Soft Rains..." and "Mars Is Heaven!" - plus "He Walked Among Us," a "what if...?" variation on Bradbury's "The Man" from The Illustrated Man. Clean, like new.

The Spirit Achives: Volume 19
by: Will Eisner

Hardcover. NY, DC Comics, 1st, 2006, Book: Very Good, Dust Jacket: Very Good, Hardcover in a bright dust jacket. Collects stories from classic Spirit adventures in which a murdered detective fights crime from beyond the grave. July 1949-December 1949. The stories in the latest volume of vintage Spirit exploits catch the masked crime fighter nine years into the series. Eisner, ever inventive, was still finding ways to keep things fresh, and a four-week arc sees the hero wandering exotic Pacific islands. There are some signs that Eisner may have been wearying of his headliner. In many tales here, including the celebrated "Ten Minutes," which counts down the final moments of a young man's life, the Spirit barely makes an appearance. As always, Eisner's much-imitated "cartoon noir" style finds him moving seamlessly from broad humor to high melodrama. Still in publisher's shrinkwrap.

Softcover. New York, W. W. Norton & Company, 1st, 2010, Book: Very Good, Dust Jacket: None, Softcover, 110 pages, illustrated throughout in b&w. Clean, unmarked copy in excellent condition. The "nasty, negative, misanthropic" comic genius proves he has a sweet side. Cute little kittens, angels, and babies? Flowers, ice cream cones, and German boy bands? Coming from, supposedly, the creepiest and most pessimistic artist of his generation? Yes indeed, there is a "sweeter side" to R. Crumb. These delectable illustrations-whether depicting Bernie the Cat pawing for his master's affection, the timeworn beauty of a French village cul-de-sac, or a quiet night chez Crumb-wonderfully exemplify the many tender moments that have, until now, played second fiddle to the cult icon's more raunchy sketches. Now Crumb harkens back to his humble American beginnings as a Cleveland greeting card illustrator, when his innate knack for the grotesque had to be suppressed for the perennial appeal of "cute." The result is this cheery and blue-skied world, where readers of every conceivable personality type, age group, even sexual persuasion can finally enjoy the artist's momentary lapse from naughty to nice.
