This copy has the following first-state errors: on the page flanking the title page indicating Rowling's previous books, "Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone" instead of "Sorcerer's Stone" and on page 332, the last word "ancestor" should be "descendant".

The back cover of the DJ has 2 bar codes at the bottom, with the numbers 51695 above the smaller one. The "Harry Potter" in gold lettering on the front panel of the jacket is raised and there is no date on the title page. Child's marking with green marker on rear endpapers. His painting also crossed boundaries including elements of Impressionism, Post-Impressionism & Tonalism. Perhaps it was this refusal to sit in one box that accounts for his being so nearly forgotten. There are many lovely pictures here, mostly of St Ives & the coasts of New England.

In 1878, the Photographic Times claimed that ten minutes provided sufficient exposure for photographing a landscape. Six years earlier, an English immigrant to the West Coast named Eadweard Muybridge, going by the commercial name of Helios, had already pushed photography far in the opposite direction: not to soak up time into pictures, but to divide time with the quickest exposures then imaginable. In 1872, the tycoon Leland Stanford had commissioned Muybridge to photograph his horse, Occident, to determine whether it ever lifted all four hooves off the ground at once.
