Includes period correspondence and memoranda of Sailing Master Daniel Dobbins. Second edition of this history first published in 1876. Standard account by this captain (1800-76) whose "father. was a pioneer in the construction of the squadron, and served actively upon the upper lakes during the war" -- which inspired and informed this chronicle of the pivotal War of 1812 battle off the coast of Ohio in which the American fleet gained control and turned the tides against the British.
