Simoneau, a Montreal-based photographer, chronicles his long romantic relationship with Caroline Annandale. Having met at a photography workshop in 2000, Simoneau and Annandale engaged in what the book's description calls a "feverish" relationship, which took a turn on September 11th 2001, the date of the World Trade Center attacks in New York. Harry Callahan was one of the most respected and influential American photographers of the modern era. One of Callahan's favorite themes was the repeating pattern, whether in multiple reeds reflected on a lake's surface or the rows of windows on a building's facade. While lesser known than some of his other work, Callahan's collages demonstrate an intense interest in and profound understanding of the process of photographic seeing. Of note, the rare combinations of objects (such. books of literature, high polished knives, exquisite dishes) and life matter (such pomegranates, honey, eggs, human skulls) set one's imagination in fire. These strange image compositions are as odd as the pairing of words by Postmodern poet Giannina Braschi who writes love poems to objects, animals, beings. The scholarly introduction by art historian Donald Kuspit is respectable but a bit dry. Regardless the imagery and poetry tower over any essay that one could write about them.
