Lulu Moppet is an outspoken and brazen young girl who doesn't follow any rules. A reissue series of Lulu's suburban hijinks: she goes on picnics, babysits, and attempts to break into the boys' clubhouse again and again. The cartoonist John Stanley's expert timing and constant gags made these stories unbelievably enjoyable, which made Marge's Little Lulu a defining comic of the postwar period. This issue concentrates on the work of just two artists, Gustaf Tenggren (1896-1970) & Frank Brangwyn (1967-1956). Tenggren originated in Sweden but emigrated to the USA in 1920, where he continued to provide illustrations for Swedish illustrated editions. Frank Brangwyn hailed from Bruges, Belgium. He moved to England with his English family to complete his education. Both artists work is illustrated with detailed texts to accompany the many illustrations. Clean copy.

After 1785 she was one of a circle of women, along with Emma Crewe and Elizabeth Templetown (1746/7-1823), whose designs for Josiah Wedgwood were made into bas-reliefs on jasper ornaments. Few cartoonists ever had as lavish a tribute as a three-volume-slipcased collection, but few are as deserving as Wilson. Collecting 50 years worth of his monthly single page gag cartoons from Playboy, it's a definitive overview of a remarkable talent and viewpoint. Considering the timeframe, Wilson's fabled black humor and art style remain remarkably consistent--as time passes, the drawing renders into slightly blobbier shapes that retain all of their wit just the same--but the source and degree of the humor is a constant. Although best known for his slightly lugubrious subjects--monsters, witches, corpses, vampires and skeletons are frequent visitors to these pages--Wilson also targets consumerism, materialism, and other basic human foibles. An exploration of Bartram's writings and artwork; all sixty-eight Bartram drawings owned by the Natural History Museum are brought together for the first time. Works by other eighteenth and nineteenth century natural history artists are included. His love of nature led him to explore the environs of the American Southeast between 1773 and 1777. Here he collected plants and seeds, kept a journal of his observations of nature, and made drawings of the plants and animals he encountered. The completed drawings were sent to his patron in London, and these make up the bulk of the collection held at London's Natural History Museum. Still in publisher's shrinkwrap.
